The beautiful thing about a cigar experience, a Mombacho Moment if you will, is that it forces you to slow down; share time with others or reflect and introspect.
You see a good cigar cannot be rushed. Not only are you creating time for yourself, you are telling the world, you have the time, quickly becoming one of life’s rarest resources.
At Mombacho, we like to say we are specialists in slowing down time. Have a Mombacho and an hour is yours. Share one with friends or colleagues and those moments that were previously hurried through over a food court lunch now become morsels of relaxation and enjoyment.
More than that, A Mombacho Moment is about commemorating a special occasion or creating one around it. Our mission is to be the purveyor of the most memorable cigar experience. Where the moment transcends the product. Like when you’re standing at the top of a volcano, gazing over the beautiful colonial town below, reflecting on the adventure that has just begun. A beautiful cigar punctuates that moment. That is a Mombacho Moment.
On a chilly, near-Fall evening, a small crowd gathers attentively around Mombacho Cigars’ Master Blender, Claudio Sgroi, as he leads them through an intimate tasting experience. Some sit, some stand, all are enrapt as the Italian-born Sgroi uses simple, beautifully descriptive English to take them through the cigar-making process, from inception to completion; to the ritual of cutting, lighting and finally enjoying the carefully and lovingly-made end product.
Throughout it all, the audience is clearly relishing the shared experience; hanging off of Claudio’s every word, savouring the moment. It’s all by design and might be the single most important thing that sets Mombacho Cigars of Nicaragua apart from its competitors – that genuine desire to create personalized, slowed-down moments that are the very essence of cigar smoking.
The enthusiastic group barely resembles a conventional congregation of cigar aficionados. But the endless questions and willingness to learn the finer details of cigars certainly indicates that they represent the new wave of enthusiasts.
This ain’t your grandfather’s cigar club. Men and women, young and old have come out to learn about cigar smoking as a refined pleasure and a ritual around which memorable experiences are made or commemorated. This represents the core of Mombacho’s mission and is just one of many ways its founders have endeavoured to share the world over.
Back in Toronto, Claudio, Master Cigar Blender, ends the lesson by sharing a touchingly personal part of one employee’s hand-rolling routine: when she finishes each cigar, she gives it a little kiss, as if to say “you’re done, go give joy to smokers.” It is this expression of love, this sharing of her experience with others, that is the essence of Mombacho.
In that instant, the audience sits content and transfixed, hanging on to these last words. There it is –another Mombacho Moment.
